Asia Cybersecurity Workshop

The workshop aims to equip aviation stakeholders across Asia with comprehensive knowledge and strategies to enhance cybersecurity resilience, covering key areas such as regulatory compliance, risk assessment, industry standards, and collaboration.

The EU-NA APP / EU-SA APP II / SCOPE APP projects are pleased to co-organise a joint Asia Cybersecurity Workshop scheduled from 13 to 17 May 2024, in Sri Lanka. The workshop aims to equip aviation stakeholders across Asia with comprehensive knowledge and strategies to enhance cybersecurity resilience, covering key areas such as regulatory compliance, risk assessment, industry standards, and collaborative initiatives..

The agenda unfolds over five days, each focusing on key aspects of cybersecurity current trends and needs:

Target participants include members from the Civil Aviation Authorities in Asia and relevant organisations involved in Cybersecurity in Aviation.

The topics that will be covered are the following:

  1. Overview of the European Cybersecurity Regulatory Framework:

    • Introduction to the EU system, institutional environment, roles, and responsibilities.

    • Overview of EU/EASA regulatory approach, including actors, roles, responsibilities, hierarchy of norms, and EASA rulemaking process.
       

  2. Cyber threat landscape:

    • How to address the related threats and vulnerabilities through cyber threat intelligence and information sharing

    • Understand the threat landscape in the aviation sector, discuss threat actors, motivations, sources of intel, collaborations, platforms and tools.
       

  3. Cybersecurity risk assessment and risk management:

    • Explore the specific cyber risks that the aviation sector is facing and present potential threats, vulnerabilities as well as recent major incidents and trends.

    • Risk assessment methodologies and practical exercise.
       

  4. Cybersecurity organisations in Europe and regional cooperation:

    • Foster regional cooperation in Asia by potentially creating a platform for sharing experiences, lessons learned, and insights into emerging cybersecurity threats.

    • Encourage a collaborative approach to address cybersecurity risks collectively, also with the EU.​​​​​​​
       

  5. Industry contributions and experiences.
     

Throughout the five days, the workshop will seek to facilitate a holistic understanding of European practices while tailoring discussions to the specific needs and challenges of the Asian region, thereby fostering a collaborative approach to cybersecurity development led by EASA experts.
