EU-SA APP II - Helicopter Operations in Mountainous Terrain and Regulatory Workshop

The EU-SA APP II project's Helicopter Initiative takes off with the first regional workshop scheduled from 21 to 25 October 2024, in Nepal. The primary objective of the EU - South Asia APP II Helicopter Workshop is to enhance the safety, efficiency, and regulatory framework of helicopter operations in the South Asia region, with a particular focus on challenging environments such as mountainous terrain.

The workshop aims to share best practices, strengthen regulatory knowledge, and promote the development of Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS). This collaborative effort will bring together aviation authorities, operators, pilots, and industry stakeholders to foster a safer and more effective helicopter operating environment in the region.

Target participants include members from the Civil Aviation Authorities in South Asia and relevant helicopter operators from the South Asia region. Helicopter pilots from Nepal will have focused sessions related to operations in mountainous terrain.

Drones Initiative - EU UAS Operations and Regulations in the Open & Specific Categories Workshop

The workshop aims to equip aviation stakeholders across Asia with comprehensive knowledge and strategies to enhance cybersecurity resilience, covering key areas such as regulatory compliance, risk assessment, industry standards, and collaboration.

The event took place over five days, each focusing on key aspects of cybersecurity current trends and needs.

Drones Initiative - EU UAS Operations and Regulations in the Open & Specific Categories Workshop

This workshop aims at providing an overview of EU UAS operations & regulations in the open & specific categories in EU, identifying potential applications at bilateral and regional level, while encouraging harmonisation and cooperation in South Asia.

The workshop will provide a platform for South Asian states to share their current drones regulation status, showcasing best practices and discussing challenges. Through panel discussions and collaborative sessions, participants will identify opportunities for harmonisation and future cooperation between the EU and South Asian states, ultimately aiming to enhance safety, efficiency, and innovation in UAS operations across the region..

Air Navigation Initiative - Centralised and Regional Air Navigation Services in Europe Workshop

This 5-day workshop aims at covering EU ATM/ANS evolution, centralised management, interoperability, PBN implementation, civil-military coordination, and regional cooperation, fostering knowledge exchange and strategic planning for South Asia.

The EU-SA APP II project's Air Navigation Initiative is advancing with the second regional workshop scheduled from 29 January to 02 February, 2024, in Sri Lanka. The workshop aims to enhance collaboration and knowledge exchange among South Asian countries. The agenda unfolds over five days, each focusing on key aspects of air navigation and aviation services.

 

Target participants include members from the Civil Aviation Authorities in South Asia and relevant Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs).

2nd EU-Asia symposium on UAS/UAM

The EU-Asia symposium on UAS/UAM will tackle common regulatory and operational challenges in safely integrating drones and air taxis into the aviation system. ​ The symposium will take place at the Goodwood Park Hotel in Singapore on 07-10 November 2023. The event is funded by the European Union and co-hosted by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore.

Environment Matters in Aviation: EU & South Asia working together towards a greener and more sustainable aviation

This one-week workshop is designed to facilitate participants achieve progress with regard to CORSIA implementation and enhance their knowledge regarding carbon emissions offsetting, the potential role of SAF and State Actions Plans (SAP).

 

The workshop aims at updating participants on the latest developments in CORSIA implementation, including the amendments of the CORSIA SARPs and enhancing their understanding with practical exercises of the future impact from offsetting requirements to aeroplane operators in the region.

2nd Project Management Board Meeting

The 2nd Project Management Board Meeting (PMBM) of the EU-South Asia Aviation Partnership Project II took place on 19th September 2023 in Bandos Island in the Maldives and brought together the Directors-General of South Asian partner countries, focal points, EU Services representatives, and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). This strategic meeting guided the technical steering of the project and endorsed the Annual Work Plan. EASA chaired and facilitated the discussions, joined by co-Chairs from the European Commission's Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE) and the Service for Foreign Policy Instruments (FPI).

14th SARI Steering Committee Meeting

On 18th  September 2023, esteemed Directors-General and key stakeholders convened for the South Asian Regional Initiative (SARI) Steering Committee Meeting (SCM). This pivotal gathering propelled forward the transformative journey of SARI, advancing harmonization in aviation regulations across airworthiness, flight operations, flight crew licensing, and air navigation. Thanks to their insights and active participation, we continue to steer the region toward a unified aviation landscape.

Upset Prevention Recovery Training (UPRT) Workshop for Regulators

The goal of this course is to provide knowledge, skills, understanding and attitude enabling participants to explain the ICAO provisions and EU regulations applicable to Upset Prevention Recovery Training to enhance the safety of airline operations, including Flight Crew Training in FSTDs, the UPRT requirements for Flight Crew Licensing, and enabling CAA personnel to assist in the development of UPRT regulations.

Upset Prevention Recovery Training (UPRT) Workshop for Regulators

The workshop will allow to perform a deep dive in the U-space concept and Acceptable means of compliance (AMC) and guidance material (GM) to the U-space regulatory framework (EU)2021/664/665/666, especially the recently published AMC and GM to Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/664 — Issue 1.

 

The certification process of U-space service providers (USSPs) and Common Information Service Providers (CISPs) and the outcome of the EU Member States Task force on the USSP/S-CISP certification harmonisation will be also presented.

This workshop is open to industry and authorities, and will be a unique opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback to whom has been directly involved in the development of U-space concept and regulatory framework, as well as the associated AMC/GM.

Air Navigation Planning and Performance Management Workshop

The EU-SA APP II project is hosting a comprehensive air navigation regional workshop in the Maldives from 18 to 21 September 2023.

 

The workshop is designed to enhance participants' understanding of air navigation planning, encourage collaboration, and contribute to the development of effective strategies for the South Asian region. It aims to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing among participants from various countries and organisations.

SSP/SMS Fundamentals for South Asian Aviation – Train the Trainer Workshop

16-18 August 2022, New Delhi, India

This workshop provided South Asian authorities and key stakeholders with an insight into the challenges and best practices related to safety management system (SMS) training. The workshop was designed to meet the needs of professionals already working in safety and, in particular, those who train others in SMS.

Aviation Cybersecurity Workshop

27-28 June 2022, Singapore

This workshop focused on cybersecurity in aviation, considering its local, regional and international implications, and facilitated discussions on several associated subjects. It covered awareness about national, regional and international initiatives by both states and industry.

The first Regional Meeting of the EU SA APP II was held in Paradise Island Resort in Maldives from 30th May—1st June 2022. Maldives as a South Asian State has expressed their willingness to volunteer for implementation of CORSIA which was welcomed by Mr. Carlos Menendez as it is one of the Key Activities of the Project Objectives.

SSP/SMS Fundamentals for Sri Lankan Aviation Safety

14-18 March 2022, Katunayake, Sri Lanka

The focus of this first on-site workshop was the extensive review of the basic pillars of safety management. It was intended for anyone
working in aviation including regulators, managers, safety and quality managers from all aviation service providers.
